Convivial, informal & enduring, the Buffalo Grill has stuck to its successful formula for more than 25 years. The menu centres around burgers & steaks, the decor has flourishes of Americana (buffalo horns on the wall, prints of the Old West) & it’s unlicensed – hence BYO. At lunchtime, you might start with salsa de carne dip (minced beef, chilli & tomato), move on to char-grilled, Boston-cut rump steak with chips, & finish with a resolutely sweet pecan pie. In the evening, things get a little more ambitious with American-style chicken, fish & premium steaks added to the repertoire – although it’s still possible to have a couple of courses for under £20 (shrimp tempura ahead of a bacon & Swiss melt burger, perhaps). A second branch at 1 Raeburn Place (0131 332 3864) is licensed.
