This busy little country pub sits comfortably with its traditional cottage look, offering a pleasing mix of dark beams, a warming winter fire, faded carpets, rustic furniture, memorabilia & prints. Blackboard menus offer a lengthy list of traditional crowd-pleasers along the lines of beef, ale & mushroom pie, beer-battered haddock or lamb’s liver & bacon, with occasional starters (say calamari noodles with sweet chilli, chorizo salad & garlic bruschetta) stepping tentatively outside the box. Desserts continue the trend, with homely sticky toffee pudding rubbing up against a more exotic mango & ginger parfait. Good ales & some 20 wines by the glass add to the appeal, likewise the attractive location & pretty garden.
