The Feathered Nest Country Inn

Originally an old malthouse, this intimate pub/restaurant-with-rooms in the tiny village of Nether Westcote has recently been updated & thoughtfully refurbished. An informal bar offers cask-conditioned ales, deep leather sofas & a huge inglenook fireplace, while two elegant, but informal dining spaces serve a decent, but pricey range of dishes made with locally produced ingredients – including herbs & vegetables from the pub’s own kitchen garden. Specialities such as slow-cooked tenderloin of pork with homemade black pudding, damson & white beans or pan-fried hake with crushed bacon & squash, ruby chard & ceps are typical of the seasonal line-up, while the extensive global wine list includes 25 recommendations by the glass & some unsung boutique names. Outside, a sunny, heated terrace shaded by a huge sycamore tree affords far-reaching views over the gorgeous Evenlode Valley.
