With high-ranking Hyde & Co as its elder sibling, there’s no arguing with this swish venue’s impeccable pedigree. Set slap-bang in the middle of town, but a world away from many of the identikit bars nearby, the Milk Thistle certainly knows how to impress. Ring to gain entrance & you’ll find the drinks menu pasted into old bound books (a cute touch), with a sound choice of club-style cocktails & interesting beers on offer. Food runs to generously topped pretzels, & service is attentive, without getting too close for comfort. The imperial decor works a treat in this listed building, with its original wooden panelling & beautiful carved wooden staircase, while neat details including old drums for tables, retro lampshades, assorted leather sofas & stuffed animals give it the feel of a gentlemen's lounge – particularly on the second floor, which is set to become a members' bar.
