A converted Victorian watering hole, the North Star is a great looker, complete with boudoir-style trimmings, Japanese screens & grand old armchairs. There are a few ironic nods to its past as a humble boozer (note the wall of landscape prints & candle-style electric lights), but the linen-clad tables signal a serious attitude to food – expect anything from meatballs with chunky bread to penne with Italian sausage ragù, Caesar salad or calzone pizzas. Beer is also taken seriously, with a worldwide selection running from Brooklyn, Moosehead & Mahou lagers to Timmerman’s Belgian fruit beers, plus a weekly clutch of guest ales. Regular events include Monday quizzes & an open-mic night on Wednesdays. Related to the Vulcan Lounge on Wyverne Road.
