Within striking distance of Cardiff Castle & the Millennium Stadium, the Potted Pig occupies a former bank vault whose simple, stripped-back interior makes a feature of bare brickwork & air-conditioning pipes. The food is gutsy, down-to-earth & right on-trend, with dishes such as ham hock terrine with homemade piccalilli or a combo of bone marrow, duck hearts & sweetbreads with parsley salad. At lunchtime you can pick your way through a ploughman’s (including a homemade Scotch egg), while evening might bring anything from rabbit with peas & chips or pearl barley risotto with tomatoes, basil & buffalo mozzarella to a mezze plate of flatbread, tabbouleh, char-grilled haloumi, chickpea salad & tzatziki. To round things off, get your sweet fix from Eton mess or the self-effacing ‘ridiculous chocolate tart’ with crème fraîche.
