Escapism is the fervent hope of all who enter the Hula Tiki Bar, & in a Northern Quarter basement, it’s achieved through the liberal application of tropical fish, palm-tree wallpaper & a grass-topped, stone-fronted bar. Those who perch on the leopard-print bar stools can explore Hula’s collection of rums, including Santiago de Cuba Blanca & Diplomatico, straight up or made into an evocative selection of punches, fizzes & coolers. Groups who like to share can order one of the bowl drinks: try the flaming volcano bowl, with Cognac, guava, papaya & a blend of rum, or the powder keg, a three-litre cask filled with Hula’s lavishly garnished ‘special secret potion’. Happy hours & DJs playing feelgood tunes with a tropical slant complete the Hula feeling.
