This roadside pub has had a smart makeover – lots of wood, exposed brick & neutral colours – creating a clever contrast between the modern bar (with Adnams Bitter & Woodfordes Wherry on handpump) & more traditional-looking dining rooms. Local produce drives the menus & the repertoire is a compendium of modern brasserie dishes & updated pub classics. Dine on Sutton Hoo chicken & tarragon pie, lamb burger with cucumber & mint yoghurt or venison meatballs wrapped in bacon with onion gravy, while dessert could be a good treacle tart with excellent vanilla ice cream. It’s all very relaxed, a place to unwind – especially in fine weather, when the garden & children’s play area are a huge draw.
