Square Meal Review of The Pipe and Glass Inn ?

With the award of a Michelin star in 2010, The Pipe and Glass Inn has given East Yorkshire’s rather limited dining scene a real shot in the arm. The 15th-century pub has been done out with good taste – think open fires & wood burners, heritage colours, polished wood & brown leather chesterfields – while the kitchen works to exacting standards, delivering food with strong regional overtones. You can eat well from a menu that might open with a ‘taste of Yorkshire game' (honey-smoked wild duck, potted grouse, a little hare & juniper pasty, & a shot of game tea) before braised crispy lamb (from the Burdass family) with a mutton & kidney faggot, butternut squash purée & wild mushrooms or John Dory with creamed curly kale, spiced sweetbreads & roast salsify. To conclude, perhaps a trio of Yorkshire apples – a crumble with blackberries, a sticky sponge & a sorbet.
