It started out a few years ago as a basic shack with a few tables, but the Anchor Stone Café is now a thoroughly professional outfit commanding fantastic views over the river Dart. It’s considered one of the best places in the southwest to eat crab: these fantastically fresh crustaceans are landed virtually on the café’s doorstep, & are served in three sizes with a nice side salad & chips. But there is more to the place than crabs, & the wide-ranging seafood menu offers all sorts of maritime treats from mussels & scallops to oysters & lobsters; if you fancy the lot, try one of the cracking seafood platters. In fine weather, order a bottle of decent wine & sit outside overlooking the river.
