It may resemble a souped-up Portakabin, but this offbeat restaurant squeezed in beside a garden centre in a Sheffield suburb is a real find. Contemporary colours on the walls, dark wooden floors & tasteful tunes on the soundtrack provide reassurance – as do the pleasant, helpful staff. The kitchen is thoughtful & creative in its endeavours, delivering beautiful platefuls of home-smoked venison carpaccio with celeriac rémoulade, pickled red cabbage, juniper dressing & pickled walnuts, followed by roast corn-fed guinea fowl with haggis, neeps & tatties, roast baby onions & whisky sauce. Desserts are as impressive as everything else, with mango & passion fruit parfait, coconut chilli brittle & raspberry sorbet enough to make your heart sing.
