Wood Hall has everything going for it – a striking stone-built house dating from 1750 set in 100 acres of prime Yorkshire countryside, complete with a tastefully updated interior, a health club & spa. It’s the ultimate weekend retreat. The Georgian restaurant’s style is a restrained blend of old & new, which the kitchen attempts to emulate with a menu of classic & contemporary flavours. Starters ranging from Wood Hall smoked salmon with girolles & rigatoni pasta to potted rabbit with lentils & herb jelly set the tone. Follow on with wild sea trout, sweet cicely & frog’s legs or fillet of beef with morels, marrow & matchstick potatoes, before closing the show with minted strawberry & shortbread pie or the seasonal Yorkshire cheeseboard.
