You launch a British venue with simple food & low prices. It’s a massive hit, so what comes next? An Italian venue with simple food & low prices a couple of doors along. Following the success of The Dogs, restaurateur Dave Ramsden decided to go with Amore Dogs in May 2009. A fairly extensive space with stripped-down decor, it has elements of IKEA aesthetics garnished with big-ticket colour, specifically the massive faux-Renaissance picture of a dog behind the bar. During the day there is a range of basic Italian dishes – anything from minestrone soup or a small antipasti plate to penne carbonara or grilled mullet. The evening menu is more muscular, with main courses ranging from a decent pizza margherita to char-grilled swordfish with caponata. You could finish with pannacotta or lemon & almond polenta cake. Fresh, lively, good value, no complications.
