Montague's at Barcelo Shrigley Hall Hotel Golf and Country Club

The location is a stunner: this impressive country house stands amid 262 acres of spectacular countryside just 15 miles south of Manchester – & it enchants everyone. There are glorious garden views from the windows of the evenings-only Montague’s Restaurant, which keeps things relatively simple on the food front. While the cooking style may be a tad conservative, there’s nothing wrong with mainstream dishes along the lines of pressed ham hock with piccalilli or breast of guinea fowl with a forestière sauce. However, the kitchen saves its most adventurous ideas until last, with intriguing desserts such as Pimm’s & lemonade cheesecake (a great combination) or white chocolate pannacotta.
