Mission control for Lady Bamford’s vision of foodie heaven in middle England, Daylesford is a delicious slice of Cotswold countryside – part working organic farm & part shop, café, bakery & creamery. The cashmere & green welly brigade (plus hordes of curious visitors) bring their money & their appetites to buy desirable comestibles & to graze in the beautifully converted barn with its stonework & heavy timber beams. They come here for seasonally attuned, ethically sound offerings including Daylesford rarebit, salad of roasted quail with mushroom purée & white wine sauce, venison sausages & poached Daylesford Legbar eggs with grilled mushrooms & hollandaise – not forgetting freshly baked breads, artisan cheeses & puds of the apple crumble variety. Breakfast, brunch & afternoon tea are high on the agenda, & alfresco lounging under parasols in the courtyard is de rigueur when the sun shines.
