Square Meal Review of The Restaurant at Bunchrew House Hotel ?

A pink-turreted fairytale castle bang on the shore of Beauly Firth, Bunchrew House provides a useful stopover en route to the far north of Scotland. The mood is trad tartan, with a dark panelled, Highland-themed drawing room where you can play the laird & enjoy a welcome as warm as the log fires. The dining room is suitably plush in the ‘grand hotel’ style. Bag the table in the bay window, & watch as oystercatchers pick over the falling tide or a helicopter lands an international party of guests. An autumn lunch kicked off with that old faithful – a medley of seafood involving crab cake, red mullet & nicely char-grilled scallops. To follow, expect Highland venison with mulled wine sauce, guinea fowl on a mango sauce or sea bass with a lemon & lime risotto. After that, consider pineapple tarte tatin or caramelised lemon tart with Armagnac sauce.
