Square Meal Review of Angel Vaults ?

First choice for serious dining in Carmarthen, the Angel Vaults is a suave & stylish affair housed in an atmospheric old pub near the castle. All the action takes place upstairs, overlooking the remains of the gatehouse. The understated interior showcases an extraordinary medieval window – an original feature that now divides two dining areas. The menu is a melting pot of influences, opening with grilled fresh sardines & tomato compote or crispy duck leg & watercress salad with bean sprouts & a sweet soy dressing. You could follow with 28-day aged sirloin of Welsh beef with a peppercorn sauce & triple-cooked chips, an assiette of pork with apple & onion tart tatin or rack of Welsh salt marsh lamb with lightly spiced couscous & an apricot & mint sauce. For dessert, perhaps Eton mess or sticky toffee pudding with ice cream.

    The food and drink in the resturent is exellent.. The menu is very british but is to a very high standered. From pate and prawns to chicken and fish dishes the entier menu is well thought out an cooked superbly. My recomedations are the chicken liver pate and chicken with douphinous patatoes and mushroom sauce with savoy cabbage. Delisious! The staff are very friendly and helpful and will go the extra mile to make your expierience an exellent one. The ambuiance in the resturent is fantastic. The resturent has a very warm and relaxing homey atmosphere despite being a modern, contenporary resturent. The food and drink is very well priced. The quality of the food and drink is worth the money. My overall rating of the resturent four and a half stars.

    Popped in on a Saturday lunchtime in September and what a gem !! Lunctime menu is real value for money, the food was beautifully cooked and well-presented and was delicious. The service by the two waitresses on the day was exceptional. A real bargain and I can't fault it. I'll definitely go again when next in Carmarthen.
