The Chichester Festival Theatre’s recently re-launched Brasserie in the Park is proving a big draw with its winning combination of reliable, attractively priced food & welcoming atmosphere. The fixed-price lunch & dinner menu is good value (£15/£20 for two/three courses) & makes a reasonable fist of providing honest, seasonally inspired food without too many surprises. Beetroot-cured salmon with grain mustard & horseradish emulsion or tataki of beef with plum dipping sauce start things off lightly. To follow, sea bream with saffron mash & sauce vierge or organic bangers & mash with shallot gravy are just as satisfying, while gooseberry & lemon thyme brulee is the ideal way to round things off. Note: opening hours for Brasserie in the Park work around performances in the theatre, so call for times.
