Square Meal review of Zilli Brasserie:
Part of the modish Myhotel boutique chain, this airy, window-fronted restaurant comes simply embellished with wooden floors, a funky open kitchen & the odd fish tank. More amusingly, the hotel’s flirtation with Eastern philosophy ensures wise and witty comments can be found in chic bathrooms from the likes of Freddie Mercury & 70s spiritualist Maharishi Yogi. The vast, slightly pricey menu yields some fine dishes: deep-fried courgette flowers stuffed with creamy mint-flecked ricotta makes the grade with an almost oriental dressing of red chilli & salt, lobster ravioli is in tune with the Zilli brand, & an imaginative main course of gnocchetti with monkfish ragout & pungent Ligurian olives satisfies. But it is a simple sea bass – unshowily dressed with first-pressed olive oil & Sicilian lemon that humbly steals this show. As expected, the wine list traverses Italy with confidence, while families, kiddies & couples all find fun here.
