Square Meal Review of Sopwell House ?

A combination of hotel, leisure complex & conference centre, the former Georgian country home of Lord Mountbatten is just a 20-minute train ride from London. Not surprisingly there’s a range of eating options with the Restaurant at Sopwell House being the most formal. Brixham crab plate is one way to start, or there could be pigeon, duck & cured ham terrine with poached damsons ahead of red mullet with pressed tomato terrine, black olive & oregano, or halibut, smoked king prawn & ginger cannelloni. Summer berry & Pimm’s jelly with fromage frais sorbet is a refreshing finish. The superb wine collection is housed in an impressive wine wall where diners have plenty of choice from around the world.

the meal at sopwell house was not very good value for money I had the scallops as a starter which was £9.50 it was some pumpkin puree with three scallops not whole but they had been cut in half so it was actually one and a half scallops
with three leafs of pea cress and three drops of beetroot puree
the main course I had was a trio of lamb which I think lack imagination three ways of cooking lamb all very nice but all served on mash potato I would have expected more from a place such as sopwell house the service was not what I would have expected they did not crumb down after Any course the fact that the service charge was not add to your bill at the end of the meal and was up to you to add was probably best as I would have not been comfortable asking them to remove it from the bill
