In an interesting take on the tapas theme, this informal modern restaurant on the ground floor of Theatr Brycheiniog specialises in reasonably priced dishes designed for sharing. Start with good homemade bread plus olives & olive oil, then move on to various plates & bowls (ranging from £6 to £8), which might include a miscellany of home-smoked fish, home-cured charcuterie, lightly battered goujons of free-range chicken with black pepper, garlic & Aga-dried tomato dip, or slow-roast ribs of Tamworth pork in hoisin marinade on chilli noodles. It’s all affordable stuff based on Welsh produce, & the short global wine list is equally good value, with bottles ranging from £10 to £19. In fine weather you can sit outside overlooking the canal.
