Square Meal review of Hotel du Vin Cambridge:

A slice of vintage Hotel du Vin in the heart of Cambridge, this new opening has all the familiar trademarks: everything from the service to the furniture is perfectly pitched somewhere between swish & informal. Take a look around: there’s an atmospheric, sofa-filled library for lounging, a labyrinthine basement bar full of secluded snugs & a cosy cigar shack. Amidst all this is the bustling bistro, decked out in Franglais style, with charming sommeliers speaking the same language. The menu is safe, the ingredients fresh & the cooking assured, from a belly warming pumpkin soup to a sprightly piece of turbot with spring peas, sauce vierge & wilted spinach. Moules mariniere come with a deliciously moppable liquor, while heartier choices could include braised oxtail, steak with frites or duck ‘cottage pie’. The superb wine list roams through France, but also does justice to the rest of the world.
