Brasserie Blanc has snapped up the riverside grain mill that was formerly home to Leodis, retaining the rough brick & industrial ironwork but giving the place a sharp contemporary makeover with a menu of simple dishes & tight pricing (dine with wine for £14). The kitchen has hit the ground running. French bistro classics include moules mariniere, snails in garlic butter, roast duck in orange & lime sauce, slow-cooked lamb, & steak & chips. Fish dishes include salmon fishcake with butter sauce, seared haddock & shellfish with a white wine sauce, while a handful of non-meat options take in mushroom risotto, polenta gnocchi & spinach rigatoni. Desserts are straightforward but accomplished: cheese, ice-creams, crumbles & souffles. Children are thoughtfully offered half portions at half price.
