Square Meal review of The Waterhole Wine Bar & Restaurant:
The Waterhole opened last year to a wide welcome from those who remembered it as the much-loved wine bar owned & run by Frenchman Guy Martin-Laval. Returned from a spell in Languedoc, Martin-Laval is back with all his favourite dishes – both here & at his other bistro, La Grillade on Wellington Street (see review). Expect the likes of black pudding with apple sauce, moules mariniere, Toulouse sausages, grilled steak & beef fondue. As before, there are great French fries, proper onion rings, beautiful salads, crisp baguettes & excellent wine. It’s a bigger spread on Great George Street this time round and, sacre bleu, the bigger menu even leaves France for pasta & spring rolls.
