Review of The Inn at Whitewell: ? Write your review

The Inn at Whitewell is a well-kept secret in a gorgeous setting amid the misty moors and rolling fells of the Forest of Bowland. Sitting on the banks of the River Hodder; the views down the valley are spectacular from almost every room. The welcome is as warm. Huge fires blaze in ornate iron grates, there are polished flagstones & grainy oak furniture, Dandy & the Beano in the paper rack alongside Lancashire Life, & black dogs wandering around. The restaurant splits into several bar areas, the blackboard menu offering daily specials of simply cooked local produce: smoked fillet of trout with beetroot salad & horseradish relish is earthy but sweet, & roast breast of Goosnargh duckling with bubble & squeak, black pudding sausage & red wine jus delicious & substantial. The puddings change every day, with deep, rich, melt-in-the-mouth treacle tart delivering on the blackboard’s promise of ‘nursery-like’ treats.
