Square Meal review of The Anvil Inn:
The Anvil was a working forge until the mid-1980s, & the 200-year-old blacksmith’s workshop is now the bar, forming a unique centrepiece to this inviting little pub. Sit on old oak pews or lounge in leather tub chairs while scanning the tempting menu; invention without pretension is the philosophy here, so expect thoughtfully executed food such as crispy duck pancakes with chilli jam & beansprout salad, or leek & roast garlic risotto served with deep-fried goats' & blue cheese beignets with rosemary & pistachio. The sausage sandwich with sauteed red onion, mustard mayo & fat chips is a cracking winter warmer, as is the homemade burger with a Stilton top & spicy mango chutney. Push the boat out with ginger & orange cake with rhubarb ripple ice-cream – Scarborough’s just down the road, so you can walk it all off on South Beach.
