Square Meal review of The Thomas Lord:
The square pub, named after the founder of Lord’s Cricket Ground, has been revamped by new owners who have gone for an old-fashioned stripped-back look – mention the word gastropub & you risk banishment. Food is the thing, though, with all ingredients coming from a strict 30-mile radius – no ifs or buts, & no orange juice either as there are no orange groves in Hampshire. Come for superb faggots, local goats' meat sausages, goats' cheeses, local beef & venison or smoked trout pate served with watercress from Alresford. The owners have had the sense to hire capable staff & take great care over their choice of wines & regularly changing real ales hand-pumped from the barrel, such as Bowman Swift One and Goddards Fuggle-Dee-Dum.
