Viv Casson may hail from New Zealand but her heart is in deepest France, with her repertoire delivering favourites such as moules mariniere, boeuf bourguignon & duck confit. Husband Cass presides over the smart, beamed, white table-clothed restaurant, while Viv sends out well-executed dishes such as pan-fried foie gras, a trilogy of vegetable soups, a trio of duck & a ‘symphony of the sea’ – scallops, prawns & other fish in a lemon beurre blanc. Barry Phillips, one of the South Coast’s leading wine merchants, deals admirably with the global wine list, which naturally leans heavily towards France.

My daughter took me there for my birthday last week. She had been raving about Cassons for so long that I insisted on going, and am very pleased I did. It was a real pleasure to find somewhere that really cares about what they do. From the very warm welcome we arrived, to the luscious canapes we started with and the fabulous meal that followed, everything was just about perfect.

Each course was a visual delight, and the taste exceeded the expectation. I was particularly bowled over by the pudding – a Raspberry and Cream Ice Cream wrapped in a Raspberry Sorbet, standing tall in a cylinder, with Elderflower Sorbet (from their Garden the Chef told me) and the finest shard of Chocolate Glass.

Would highly recommend Cassons to anyone who enjoys really fine food in warm, relaxed surroundings.

Having spent many years doing the London Restaurant scene, was absolutely delighted to discover Cassons.

The food is stunning to say the least, from the hand made canapes to the delicious Petit Fours.

The menu is varied and offers something for anyone…it was very difficult to chose. Lots of lovely seafood dishes, vegetarian and game. Fillet Steaks, Pork, Duck and more.

The presentation was exceptional and the taste exceeded the expectation.

The Front of House is warm and welcoming, relaxed and efficient. We had a brilliant night here and will certainly be back.

We have followed Viv Casson's culinary delights for years, from early restaurant days in London, to the 36's, to France, and to the present establishment at Tangmere, and her expertise and flair is as fresh as ever. Cassons is a truly a mouthwatering, quality ‘foody’ experience, not to be missed, coupled with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
