Square Meal review of Jamie's Italian:
This Oxford newcomer, the first in a nationwide chain, marks Jamie Oliver’s bid to bring an affordable version of his own particular brand of Italian home cooking to Britain’s high streets. The menu certainly has widespread appeal, using well-sourced ingredients to create rustic dishes from Italy: think bruschetta and antipasti boards of cured meats and cheeses followed by grilled lamb chops or tortelloni with leeks, gorgonzola and thyme. To finish, there’s the likes of pannacotta with spiced rhubarb, while the user-friendly wine list, which starts at £3.70 a glass, even features a pair of organic house wines that come in recyclable tetrapak. More regional openings are due over the next 12 months, taking in Bath, Kingston, Brighton and Cambridge. No bookings. Full review coming soon.
