Romford is a large town located in East London. Although it is within London's bounds, it was until the middle of the last century, part of Essex. Romford has a rich history, with Henry III granting Romford the privilege of having its own market from 1247. An old Essex proverb about Romford was once used, and probably still is by locals today, which was ‘go to Rumford to have your backsides new bottomed’, which was in reference to its famous manufacturing of leather breeches. There's plenty to do in Romford, including visiting the beautiful Raphael Park, or taking a day trip to one of its many museums, along with visiting its wonderful assortment of shops.
