Special Offers

There is a plethora of exciting activities on offer in this vibrant city, so if you’re visiting for a weekend getaway with the family, or just stopping by for the day, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy. Peterborough is arguably best known for its 12th-century cathedral in the heart of the city, which is regarded as one of the best examples of Norman architecture in the country. Catherine of Aragon (Henry VIII’s first wife) and Mary Queen of Scots are both buried here, and nowadays, the surrounding cathedral square is a hub of activity, housing the farmers market, a water fountain show, and various cafes and bars. This historic city even has roots tracing back all the way to the Bronze Age, evidence of which can be viewed at the Flag Fen archaeological site.

If you’re after a spot of adventure, head down to the embankment of the River Nene, which flows right through the city centre. Here you can hire a boat and paddle along the river, taking you past the magnificent cathedral and out into the tranquil countryside. Alternatively, Nene Park and Ferry Meadows, the main green spaces in the area, boast activities such as wakeboarding, horse-riding and cycling. After a jam-packed day, head into the centre of town and catch a show at one of the many theatres, like the Stahl Theatre which occupies a historic chapel and was converted into a theatre in the late 20th-century. Of course, a day out in Peterborough wouldn't be complete without a delicious dinner at one of its exciting restaurants.
