Restaurants in Stratford-Upon-Avon

Well placed for Birmingham and the Cotswolds, with the M40 just five miles away, each year Shakespeare’s birthplace draws some three million visitors from all over the world. Although justifiably proud of its history, such an influx can make the small town feel crowded, especially in the summer months. Tourists tend to focus on the five houses relating to the Bard’s life, including his birthplace, but the town is full of glorious Tudor and Georgian properties, and theatregoers are drawn to the Royal Shakespeare Company’s magnificently revamped theatre. With chain restaurants and cafes all too prominent, you need to fly beneath the radar to seek good restaurants in Stratford. The all-day RSC Rooftop Restaurant makes the most of views of the River Avon and is good for pre-show deals and snacks, the Thai Boathouse is a prime spot for riverside dining, or try the Waterside Brasserie at the Arden Hotel.
