Reading is a city full of culture, with everything from its top-class university to its famous annual music festival and successful football team. However, there are also a number of brilliant restaurants in this buzzy Berkshire town which are well worth checking out. Reading has a huge range of different eateries but in particular it has an abundance of small French bistros and modern European spots. However the wider area is home to some fantastic pubs and even the odd Michelin-starred restaurant, so if you’re looking more generally for restaurants near Reading, there are plenty of different options to pick from.

Located in Berkshire, Reading is a town based right on the Thames. With evidence which dates Reading back as far as the eighth century, it’s a town which is steeped in history. This is something that’s still evident today in the form of the ruins of Reading abbey, which sit right in the town centre. In fact, for a large part of the medieval period Reading was an important ecclesiastical centre and also has strong connections with royalty. Nowadays however, it’s become a far more industrial town and is home to the headquarters of a number of large-scale companies. Meanwhile, among the younger generation it’s perhaps best known for having hosted one of the largest music festivals in the UK for the last 50 years.

However, the town centre is also packed full of lovely restaurants with everything ranging from family-run Italian restaurants, to Japanese and Thai kitchens. There are also numerous brilliant restaurants near Reading if you don’t want to go right into the centre of town. Berkshire is home to some stunning country houses and hotels, many of which contain fine dining restaurants, while the nearby town of Henley-on-Thames is also renowned for having some brilliant spots for eating out.
