Restaurants in Maidstone

The Archbishops Palace, formerly the 14th-century residence of the Archbishops of Canterbury and All Saints Church, one of the largest and finest Perpendicular churches in England, are jewels in Maidstone’s crown, but the River Medway dominates, flowing through its heart. Popular with pleasure boats and the considerable number of people living on houseboats, for many years there has been a river festival during the last weekend in July. As the county town and commercial centre of Kent, Maidstone is one of the top five shopping centres in the south east, with two main centres, The Mall and Fremlin Walk, offering the usual array of high-street chain stores and mid-range chain eateries; sadly, good restaurants in Maidstone tend to be found in surrounding villages. The Mulberry Tree at Boughton Monchelsea satisfies a smart crowd willing to travel in search of somewhere that really cares, while in Aylesford, Hengist delivers modern European cuisine, Kits Coty a lively, Mediterranean slant.
