It may be the home of two Premier League football clubs (Liverpool and Everton) and the world-famous Grand National (run annually at Aintree Racecourse on the outskirts of the city), but to many Liverpool will always be synonymous with The Beatles and The Cavern (where the Fab Four were discovered). Dubbed the ‘World Capital of Pop’ by Guinness World Records, Merseybeat tourism forms a significant part of Liverpool’s economy. Elsewhere, the city is noted for its rich architectural heritage, with several central areas granted World Heritage Site status by UNESCO in 2004, among them Pier Head, Albert Dock and William Brown Street. As for restaurants in Liverpool, there’s plenty of choice, from Chinatown, the oldest Chinese community in Europe, to The Panoramic, living up to its name on the 34th floor of the city’s Beetham Tower, from Hanover Street Social, a big, brash all-day brasserie, to Lunya, a Catalonian fusion restaurant and deli.
