Restaurants in Exeter

Exeter is the county town of Devon, the gateway to Dartmoor National Park and the whole of south Devon. It’s a growing university city, very student-friendly with a thriving arts scene, but small enough to be dominated by its historic cathedral, built in 1114. There’s an annual summer Arts and Craft Festival, while the sheer diversity and quality of south-west produce is celebrated at the Exeter Festival of food and drink held at the end of April, and at the Exeter farmers’ market held every Thursday morning. Local produce fuels the menus of some very good restaurants in Exeter, too. The Restaurant at Magdalen Chapter is noted for deliciously unassuming food, but elsewhere Michael Caines dominates the scene with Michael Caines at ABode and the easygoing MC Café Bar and Grill in Exeter, and two-Michelin-starred fireworks at Gidleigh Park in Chagford.
