Ely is a cathedral city in East Cambridgeshire. It's around 80 miles from London and has a relatively small population. Ely is famous for its beautiful Norman cathedral which is known locally as the Ship of the Fens. There's plenty of rich history in Ely, as this space was the stronghold of Hereward and the Wake, and was even home to Oliver Cromwell. You can still visit his house today – with a kitchen that dates back nearly a thousand years, and even the opportunity to do an escape room in the very home that the former Lord Protector once lived in. Whilst the city is quite quiet, you won't find yourself short of things to do. You can stroll the farmers market, pay a visit to the city museum, a stained glass museum even, visit many antique centres and go to a National Trust nature reserve.
