It’s hard not to be dazzled by this World Heritage city with its hot springs and spa water, Roman history and fine Georgian architecture. As a major tourist destination, a lot of cafés, restaurants and bars (especially around the Abbey and Roman Baths) target sightseers, but Bath can claim to have hosted the very first farmers’ market in the county and a number of modern British restaurants in Bath are keen to champion prime West-Country produce. The Olive Tree at the Queensbury Hotel, The River Canteen and The Circus Café and Restaurant are worth a visit, as are gastropubs such as the King William and the Marlborough Tavern. There’s even a Michelin-starred restaurant, awarded to Michael Caines and Sam Moody at The Bath Priory, and the city has great hopes of another with the arrival of Michelin-starred chef Chris Staines at Allium Brasserie in the magnificently renovated Abbey Hotel.
