About

The Boleyn Tavern, having temporarily closed its doors in 2020, underwent an extensive period of restoration and renovation, emerging under new management in the summer of 2021. This magnificent structure, a longstanding fixture at the intersection of Green Street and Barking Road since 1900, has been meticulously revitalised, recapturing its former Victorian splendour with an abundance of love and care. Skilled artisans employed traditional techniques to restore Victorian cut glass, lay marble and tiled floors, and recreate wooden screens that partition the seven distinct bars, including the Saloon Bar, Public Bars, and the highly coveted 'Carriage Bar' and 'Ladies Bars,' offering an extensive selection of beers, wines, and spirits. In the splendid old Billiard Hall, a theatre kitchen now resides, serving delectable classic British cuisine beneath a resplendent stained glass canopy. The Boleyn Tavern evokes the opulent ambiance of a grand Victorian Gin Palace, offering a truly breathtaking sight to behold.

At the Boleyn Tavern, your culinary journey begins with enticing starters that awaken your taste buds to a symphony of flavours. You can delight in Gochujang glazed wings, accompanied by crispy onions, fresh spring onions, and Kewpie mayo, offering a delectable fusion of sweet and spicy notes. Alternatively, enjoy the devilled whitebait, served on a bed of mixed salad with a zesty paprika mayo, providing a harmonious blend of textures and a hint of heat.

As you progress to the main courses, you'll encounter a wealth of diverse flavours and culinary inspiration. The mixed bean, quinoa and beetroot burger stands out as a vegetarian delight, nestled within a toasted brioche bun alongside sliced tomato, cheddar cheese, guacamole, and crispy fries, creating a satisfying and flavorful ensemble. For those seeking a meaty delight, the grilled cajun chicken supreme awaits, partnered with a delightful new potato and chorizo stew, all complemented by a vibrant pesto salad. Whether you favour the sizzle of spiced chicken or the yummy charms of a vegetarian burger, the Boleyn Tavern's menu offers a delightful selection of dishes to satisfy your palate.

Wonderful staff, great food, fantastic refurbishment of a Victorian treasure.

Went for Sunday lunch. Polite and helpful staff, assisted with disability access and scooter, even after I ran over a foot! Food was delicious, although rather overpowered by an extremely salty gravy.  Portions were so big, we're going to have to make a return trip to try the desserts!
