The Pig and Whistle is a cosy and inviting restaurant located in the North Chelmsford countryside. Open from Wednesday to Sunday serving lunch and dinner, plus Sunday lunch, this 16th century building has been renovated to create a charming rural restaurant serving an award winning menu.
Decor is simple and stylish, with thoughtfully laid tables, soft lighting and polished wooden floors. Tables are dotted with candles, making The Pig and Whistle the perfect place for a romantic dinner for two, or perhaps a special family meal.
Whilst older children are welcome at the restaurant, the ambience is largely aimed at adults. Please check with the restaurant before booking with children.
The menu is seasonal and open to change, however an example of the dishes on offer include starters such as seared Nduja scallops with apple salad, and butterflied tiger king prawns served with garlic and parsley butter.
Main dishes may include Great Garnet's pork chop served with buttery mash, savoy and bacon. There is also a cauliflower Katsu curry served with coriander and sticky rice.
Desserts sound equally as tempting, with favourites such as apple and rhubarb crumble served with ice cream and an Autumn pavlova served with honey roasted fig, plum and blackcurrants. If you're looking for a cheese course you will find a selection of three cheeses available, served with artisan crackers, celery and grapes.
There is also a fixed price menu available during the week, plus Saturday lunch time, which offers two courses for £19.00, or three courses for £24.00.
You may also want to look out for speciality tasting menus on offer, for example, The Taste of Essex 7 course menu which includes a selection of produce from the county, which can be enjoyed paired with wines.
Tasting menus also vary depending on seasonality and local availability. The Pig and Whistle is also a great place to hold a private celebration or meal, it is also licensed to hold wedding ceremonies.
