No 17 Dickens Yard

With its pleasing 50s postmodern decor, this sleek, open-plan glass duplex might be in LA but for the solid Victorian gothic Christ the Saviour church next door that locates you slap bang in Ealing Broadway.

From the same numerical stable as No 11 Pimlico Road and No 32 The Old Town, No 17 Dickens Yard is first and foremost a bar (with DJs), where you can sip on sunny whites such as Croatian Malvazija Istarska from a comprehensive wine list in a courtyard terrace or call for cred cocktails such as Elderflower Paloma and Pear and Apple Cobbler on the smart wraparound veranda upstairs.

Food is served from breakfast (Anglo-Asian classics) to unfussy crowd pleasers at lunch and dinner – think pumpkin gnocchi, moules au cidre, or steak and chips. Skewers, fishcakes crostini and falafel are among the snacks, and Sunday roasts are much in demand.

Part of Darwin & Wallace’s ever-growing collection of neighbourhood bars, No 17 combines two bars and a first-floor terrace. Cosy interiors feature generous lounge seating and large bleached oak sharing tables. Outside meanwhile boasts a large outdoor courtyard on the ground floor filled with foliage, and a first-floor wraparound terrace which overlooks the Dickens Yard development.

Open all day, No 17 serves up coffee in the mornings, before making way for cocktails at night, including the likes of a Honey Martini and a Plum Collins. From the food menu, guests can enjoy a seasonally changing offering, which has a distinct focus on sustainability, so you can expect responsibly sourced fish and wonky veg.
