You might think that any old curry house would do a roaring trade right next to Stamford Bridge, so it’s to Kishmish’s credit that it aims a bit higher than your average post-match lager & vindaloo drop-in. The interior avoids flock wallpaper, tablecloths & tacky paraphernalia in favour of stylish dark-wood furniture, bare tables & elegant banquettes. Similarly, the menu has its share of kormas, dhansaks & jalfrezis, but the kitchen also ups its game with some more imaginative ideas – witness tandoor-grilled squid stuffed with minced seafood & mushrooms or a regional speciality of sweet & sour lamb with apricots & fresh mint. A short but sensible wine list is weighted to the Old World, & there’s Kingfisher or Cobra on tap for supporters with a big thirst.
