Square Meal review of Spice of Life:
The Spice has been a popular pre-gig, pre-club, pre-anything-Soho-has-to-offer meeting point for as long as anyone can remember. A range of ‘big plate’ pub staples (fish & chips, sausage & mash, steak & ale pie) & lighter bites join Kronenbourg Blanc, Heineken & McMullen’s AK or Country Best Bitters as well as Sleeman’s, Tiger & Newcastle Brown – beers that reflect the young clientele’s tastes. A basement bar with a music policy of live blues, jazz, swing, soul, rock or indie is a draw. Dylan played here, The Sex Pistols plotted Anarchy in the UK & since it went all respectable after a refurb, even that nice Jamie Cullum has been in.
