Here’s a handy place to hole up if ‘leaves on the line’ or some other sorry excuse is being trotted out at Charing Cross station, in whose shadow this pillar box red-fronted curiosity nestles. The Ship & The Shovell are actually two taverns facing one another across a common passageway. Oodles of wood panelling, nautical gubbins & old paintings confer antique allure – great for settling in with a pint of Badger IPA or Tanglefoot.
