Ornate pillars, scrolls, arches & an elaborate pub sign that features cherubs holding St Peter’s keys to the gates of heaven are almost obscured by the tumbling foliage that masks the entrance to The Cross Keys. The interior of this mid-19th century tavern is a similarly busy affair: a jumble of posters, prints, stuffed fish, pop & sporting memorabilia with pots, kettles, brassware & old musical instruments dangling from the narrow bar’s ceiling. Young’s Bitter, Courage Best & Harveys Sussex Best are the popular choices, as are pavement tables on busy Endell Street for smokers & people-watchers.
