You’ll end up spending more than a penny at this intimate converted public convenience on the edge of Covent Garden. Champagne (Piper Heidsieck) starts at £8 a glass, while a sensibly focused wine list offers Sancerre at £24 a bottle. But it’s the old-school cocktail list that twinkles amid the 1930s New York jazz club-style ambience: class acts include the Sazerac, Old-Fashioned & Dark & Stormy. Cellar Door taps into the current trend for burlesque & cabaret, with live entertainment that offers Moulin Rouge high kicks, jazzmen, crooners, stand-up & open mic sessions. Filled tortilla cones make suitably modish munchies &, in response to the smoking ban, a range of snuff replaces the more period-correct cigars.
