Square Meal Review of Fabrizio ?

Genuine hospitality is the key to this ‘real jewel of a restaurant’, thanks to the personal attentions of chef/proprietor Fabrizio Zafarana. He’s often out front, telling customers where his fish & meat come from, explaining the different cuts & waxing lyrical about his sauces. Like any adoring nonno, he dotes on his regulars (& knows what they like to order), but tourists & first-timers are made just as welcome in this cosy, ‘somewhat minimalist’ eatery. Fabrizio’s speciality is gutsy Sicilian food with strong, soothing flavours: check out the homemade pasta (conchigliette with broccoli & spicy sausage, say), the excellent fish dishes (steamed cod with sun-dried tomatoes, French beans & creamy horseradish sauce) & the skilfully crafted desserts – rich chocolate torte with hazelnut ice cream, for example. Expect packed houses at lunchtime.

    An amazing find.
The exceptional food is amazing value and the bill is always surprisingly low.
Initially found via word of mouth and I in turn have taken friends along who just keep coming back. Apart from the fabulous food is the lovely Fabrizio himself. As well as been a great chef he will always come out in the restaurant to talk to his devoted followers… for this is what you become ! His lovely wife and sister in law are often working front of house too.
The menu doesn't change much, but does have good specials, but then when you have perfection, why go changing?
The seafood risotto with it's creamy texture and inky taste is always a good recommendation and the fish and meat dishes are always cooked to perfection.
As much as I want Fabrizio to reap the rewards of his success, I don't want the place to change too much, though larger premises, which I know is something he is looking for, would add to the delight.

Fantastic Italian restaurant! I've been several times and never had less than excellent experience. It mixes the warmth of “mamma's cooking” with clean flavours, consistency and delicate combination of ingredients of haute cuisine. Just perfect.

The chef makes his own bread and pasta and every dish has his personal touch with great attention to detail. The portions are generous, meat is tender, pasta al dente and the flavours blow your mind. On top of the that, the bill is credit crisis – friendly.

The crowds tend to flock in around lunchtime, and the simple decor reflects this. Do not let that put you off! The food is fantastic so take your lover, best friend or even your Italian mother to this place (not at the same time maybe).
