Square Meal review of Maida:
A meal at this welcoming, alcohol-free oasis is a world away from the beery fill-yer-face curry houses around the corner on Brick Lane. The smart & spotless modern decor – dark wood, shiny marble floors – feels a tad cool at first, but that’s soon forgotten as the place fills up. It’s clear that real thought has gone in to the cooking: murgh tariwala features tender chicken in a gratifying sauce with strands of ginger, chilli flakes & garlic, while dum kay aloo sees baby potatoes in a delicious creamy sauce enlivened by cardamom & cinnamon sticks. Breads include romali, a lovely delicate ‘handkerchief’ naan cooked on a griddle. Other pluses are refreshing lassis, a diverting range of non-alcoholic ‘mocktails’, & attentive service from staff who are in no rush to turn tables.
