This upper-class Indian is far removed from curry house clichés – indeed, the crested red postbox in the entrance gives it an air of the Raj, while bare wood floors & sleek brown leather seats bring things up to date. Head chef Uttam Shah has served three Indian prime ministers, & aims to bring the same level of cuisine to the residents of Islington. Recognisable favourites including onion bhaji, chicken korma & rogan josh do make an appearance, but the emphasis is on diversity, with dishes such as harra kebab (spinach & lentil patties stuffed with dried figs) & mahi dum anari (sea bass with pomegranate) labelled with their region of origin (Punjab & Awad respectively). Prices are accessible, with nothing much over £10, & the short wine list won’t leave you out of pocket either.
