Islington’s restaurant-saturated Upper Street has long lacked a fine-dining Indian restaurant, a void which this new establishment seeks to fill. While it certainly makes a decent stab at offering good upmarket cooking, results are inconsistent. Lamb with okra is marred by a bland sauce, while excessive mango sauce could not hide the fact that the Hyderabadi lamb chops were undercooked. That said, the malai scallops in a green herb & coconut sauce are superb, harra kebab (spinach & lentil patties stuffed with dry figs) are subtle & delicate & sundries such as bread & rice are faultless. Perhaps the kitchen would do better to concentrate on refining flavours rather than jazzing up presentation with splashes of coulis & unnecessary drizzles. Decor is spartan, though the deep leather chairs are comfortable.
