From behind leaded windows, candlelight & worn leather sofas beckon you in from Newington Green. This laid-back local (sometimes too laid-back, as service can be unpredictable) is endearingly rough around the edges, but certainly not for any lack of care. A daily changing menu features dishes with a modern British flavour (pork chop with mash, broccoli & red wine jus), with nothing over £15. Vegetarians get a decent choice too (beetroot & savoy cabbage potato cake with creamy spinach sauce, perhaps). The Alma is a member of the Sustainable Restaurant Association, serves Fairtrade chocolate & coffee, & makes its own pork scratchings, mayonnaise, ice cream, chutney & pasta. There are always two London ales on draught & a decent wine list, but the pub also hosts beer & cider festivals as well as twice-monthly wine tastings.
Travel to The Alma in style with London's leading minicab firm Addison Lee.
